Passionflower

Passiflora incarnata

Energetics : Cooling + Relaxing

Herbal Properties : Nervine, relaxant, sedative

Passionflower, also known as Maypop, typically grows in sandy soils in the southeast United States. This flower has very therapeutic properties.

Passionflower is a nervine herb, very commonly used to calm the mind, quiet mental chatter, and relax the body. A few studies show it to have possible anti-anxiety effects (Sources 1, 4). This herb can also be useful for those with insomnia, as it seems to have sleep-inducing properties as well (Sources 2, 3).

This herb is best used at the end of the day, as its mild sedative effects might make you sleepy.

Precautions :

Not recommended to be mixed with sleep medications or while pregnant. Use caution while nursing. If you want to use this herb and have questions, it is recommended that you seek out a trusted healthcare provider.
