Chamomile is a nervine herb that is most commonly known for its calming effects. It is so gentle that it can even be used on babies! Its soothing effects almost act as a mild sedative, making it great for calming issues like colic, hyperactivity, fussiness, and irritability. One study showed Chamomile to be quite effective at soothing PMS symptoms, both emotionally and physically (Source 2).
Chamomile is also a digestive tonic, great for soothing inflammation in the digestive tract, settling the stomach, and expelling gas. (Source 3)
Chamomile can also be applied topically, it is very soothing to the skin for eczema, hemorrhoids, and even wounds. (Source 4, Source 6).
Precautions :
While Chamomile is a very gentle and safe herb, people with allergies to members of the Asteraceae family may be sensitive to Chamomile and should exercise caution.
