Catnip is a member of the mint family, it grows green, heart shapes leaves as well as small flowers. Catnip is native to Africa, Asia, and Europe.
While catnip is wildly known for making felines hyperactive, it has the opposite effect on humans! Catnip is a soothing herb, prized for its calming effects. This herb has been used to help infants with colic, fussiness, and irritability as well as being a sleeptime aid for children and adults alike.
One study compared catnip to Diazepam and found it to have anxiety relieving effects with less of the sedative effects of the drug. (Source 1)
Catnip doesn’t just settle nerves, but it may help to settle the stomach as well. Catnip may also be helpful for colds, congestion, chills, and sore throat.
